Dust & Fume Extraction Testing
The statutory Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations (COSHH) says that, as an employer, you must control the risks from breathing in dusts, mists, gases, vapour or fumes. You also have a duty of care to your employees to ensure a safe working environment. The Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2002 (DSEAR) also require employers to control the risks to safety from fire and explosions.
COSHH also requires you, by law, to have your dust and fume extraction equipment (known as LEV plant) “thoroughly examined and tested by a competent person”. Most LEV systems need to be examined and tested annually (fume extraction included), although the law provides a fourteen month maximum period between tests. All of our LEV Engineers are certified to British Occupational Health Society (BOHS) level P601.
LEV Adaptions, Maintenance and Installations
As well as being able to carry out your LEV testing; we can also design and install new systems, if and when they are required. A free-of-charge survey of your workshop system will be carried out, on request, so get in touch!
LEV testing includes the thorough examination and testing of airflow and pressure measurements. Checks are carried out on the effectiveness of the system and how well it compares with the original design performance data of the equipment and plant. The examiner will attach “tested” labels to all hoods and ductwork, and red “fail” labels where appropriate.
Following the test, full documentation is provided including a certificate of testing, test reports (containing details of where repairs are necessary or where performance is poor) and recommendations for improvement if required.
If you would like a quotation to carry out your LEV testing; please contact us with the manufacturer and model (if available) of your existing plant and what machines/equipment are connected to each unit/system.
